Some of the worst tales are hidden behind an impressive career. Lolo was able to achieve her current position after much struggle and patience. Jones was the sole member of a family with five children who lived in extreme poverty. Her mother had been constantly shifting and even was a resident in the basement. Jones needed to go to the same high school each year due to her nomadic lifestyle. Jones had to live away from mother in Theodore Roosevelt School in order to pursue her interest in track. She was a member of four families during her time at high school in order study all in the same place. Jones was awarded an award called the Gatorade Iowa Track and Field Award for the Best Athlete in high school. She was a part of the orchestra at school, playing cellist. Jones was one of the top hurdlers in her first year of college. She won the 100-meter hurdles at the 2002 NCAA Track & Field Championship.
